Anne R. Harris
Anne Harris established Ethics Works to help organizations mitigate risk by consulting on all aspects of ethics and compliance program design, implementation, and continuous improvement. Among her particular interests are ethical leadership and culture, practical and cost-efficient program design, metrics, and ethics and compliance programs for US government contractors.
A passionate believer that a well-managed ethics and compliance program adds value and supports organizational success, Anne frequently speaks at professional conferences and has published articles in magazines such as Corporate Responsibility and National Defense. She provides pro bono support to the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Ethics Committee.
Before founding Ethics Works, Anne worked with the consulting firm JTI, Inc., advising large multinational clients in areas such as ethics and compliance organization design, communications and training, and corporate responsibility reporting.
In 2013, Anne retired from General Dynamics Corporation, having served for over 9 years as Chief Ethics Officer and Staff Vice President. In that role, she led the evolution of the Business Ethics and Conduct program to attain best practice standards. She facilitated the integration of acquisitions as the corporation grew and globalized all elements of the program for consistency with complex international regulations while reaching 95,000 employees around the world. Anne oversaw adoption of a number of innovative ethics and compliance strategies tailored to the varied business needs and budgets of 13 diverse business units and conducted in-depth program assessments in subsidiaries.
Anne’s previous leadership roles included Vice President – Human Resources at General Dynamics C4 Systems and a number of Human Resources roles in GTE Corporation. Her HR responsibilities have included such areas as policy development, internal investigations, employee relations, management coaching, employment law, training, and communications, which have proven highly valuable to her ethics and compliance work.
Anne holds a B.A. degree cum laude from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts and an MBA from INSEAD, the European Institute of Business Administration, in Fontainebleau, France. She is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP)® and a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Board Governance Fellow. She has previously served as a member of the Working Group of the Defense Industry Initiative on Business Ethics & Conduct (DII), the Steering Committee of the International Forum on Business Ethical Conduct (IFBEC), and the Ethics Resource Center Fellows Program.
She is a member of the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE), the Ethics and Compliance Initiative (ECI), the Capital Area Business Ethics Network (CABEN), and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
